APTA: Commuter railroads on track for PTC implementation

image The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) yesterday announced that 97 percent of commuter railroads were positive train control (PTC) certified, in revenue service demonstration or in field testing as of Dec. 31, 2019.  During fourth-quarter 2019, 57 percent of commuter railroads were either PTC certified by the Federal Railroad Administration or operating with PTC, an 8.4 percent increase from the prior quarter, APTA officials said in a press release. Meanwhile, 30 percent of commuter railroads were in revenue service demonstration and 10 percent were in field testing.  The remaining 3 percent of railroads are preparing for field testing, according to APTA.
