Carload Express buys Delaware industrial plant

Carload Express Inc. has purchased a BASF polymer plant in Seaford, Delaware.

Due to its close proximity to a main north-south rail line, the 37,000-square-foot building was an "ideal match" for Carload Express, according to a press release issued by SVN-Miller Commercial Real Estate, which advised the sale.

Carload Express recently assumed control of Norfolk Southern Railway's lines on the majority of the Delmarva Peninsula in Delaware.

The short-line holding company aims to use the Seaford facility to develop a rail/truck transload terminal, said Carload Express Chief Marketing Officer Cliff Grunstra in an email.

"Seaford continues to prove that they are ready to do business, and this deal will benefit their economy by allowing businesses to utilize rail and reduce costs," said SVN-Miller Senior Adviser John McClellan.

The BASF property includes an adjacent 6.63-acre parcel.
