The Port Authority of Allegheny County today reopened Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington Transit Tunnel, which has been closed for a month to accommodate light-rail track replacement.
Michael Facchiano Contracting crews replaced 480 feet of track and concrete in the tunnel, authority officials said in a press release.
Mount Washington tunnel is used by buses and light-rail vehicles as a shortcut between downtown Pittsburgh and the South Hill Junction Station in the southern part of the city.
During the closure, light-rail cars were shifted to the Allentown Line, causing delays for about 10,000 weekday riders and 5,000 weekend riders, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
