The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System's (SDMTS) board earlier this month approved a transit-oriented development (TOD) near the Grantville light-rail station in San Diego, California.

The housing development would include 156 affordable units built by Affirmed Housing, 254 market-rate, student-oriented units built by Greystar and 96 parking spaces for SDMTS commuters, according to an SDMTS press release.

Construction is slated to begin in June 2020 with occupancy anticipated in June 2022.

SDMTS recently updated its joint development program to redevelop its top-tier park-and-ride locations into TODs, SDMTS officials said.

Program changes include prioritizing density, setting aside 20 percent of units for qualified low-income families and identifying partners through a competitive bidding process.
