SEPTA to begin phasing out token sales at commuter-rail stations

Beginning March 23, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) will phase out token sales at certain Regional Rail stations as it continues to transition to the reloadable "Key" card fare payment system.

The phaseout will start at stations with a low volume of token sales and proceed to busier stations on April 6, including the 30th Street, Temple University and University City stations.

However, 16 commuter-rail stations throughout SEPTA's network will continue selling tokens until further notice, SEPTA officials said in a press release. The agency continues to urge riders using tokens and legacy TransPasses to switch to the new Key fare cards.

In January 2017, SEPTA began phasing out token sales on its subway lines.
