SEPTA to begin phasing out token sales at commuter-rail stations

Beginning March 23, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) will phase out token sales at certain Regional Rail stations as it continues to transition to the reloadable "Key" card fare payment system.

The phaseout will start at stations with a low volume of token sales and proceed to busier stations on April 6, including the 30th Street, Temple University and University City stations.

Metro-North gears up for White Plains Station rehab

MTA Metro-North Railroad later this month will kick off a $94 million project to rehab its station in White Plains, New York.

Slated to begin March 18, the work includes improving station entrances, adding signage, installing LED lighting, and providing Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity.

RTA: Crosstie production, purchases rose in January

In January, crosstie production rose 1.9 percent to 1.286 million units, and purchases increased 3.4 percent to 1.585 million units from December levels, according to the Railway Tie Association's (RTA) monthly report.However, compared with year-ago levels, production in January plunged 32.3 percent, while purchases soared 22.2 percent."Purchases are in a downward trend at a 0.2 percent annual rate," RTA officials stated in the report. "Production is also trending lower and is down by a 25.9 percent annual rate."

KCS-served rail park to be built in southern Illinois

A collaboration between Stonemont Financial Group and the Jerseyville Economic Development Council in Jerseyvill, Ill., unveiled plans to build a 1,400-acre, rail-served industrial park.

The Mid-American International Gateway will be served by Kansas City Southern, which stakeholders said played a key role in forging the ongoing collaboration.
