Solaris inks seven-year transloading agreement

Solaris Oilfield Infrastructure Inc. on Wednesday announced a new seven-year transloading agreement with an exploration and production operator in the Sooner Trend Anadarko Basin Canadian and Kingfisher Counties (STACK) oil play in Oklahoma.

Under the agreement, the operator will provide minimum quarterly proppant volumes through a new facility that Solaris is developing in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

Union Pacific's Q2 net income soars 19 percent

Union Pacific Railroad reported second-quarter net income jumped 19 percent to nearly $1.2 billion, or a Q2 record of $1.45 per share, from $979 million, or $1.17 per share, in the same quarter last year.

Total operating revenue for the quarter climbed 10 percent to $5.25 billion from $4.77 billion, while freight revenue increased 11 percent to $4.9 billion from $4.4 billion a year ago, the Class I announced today in a press release.

Union Pacific Railroad on Tuesday announced it's consolidating management of the Council Bluffs Service Unit with the Twin Cities, North Platte and Chicago service units, effective July 15.Five management positions in the Council Bluffs unit will be reassigned to other locations as the railroad continues aligning operations to meet customer demands amid marketplace shifts, UP officials said in a press release.Transportation, engineering, mechanical, maintenance and other operations in the Council Bluffs unit will remain in place, they said. The unit manages about 600 miles of track in Iowa and Nebraska.

UP honors customers for safe chemical transportation

Union Pacific Railroad has recognized 56 companies with the Class I's Pinnacle Award for their commitment to safe transportation of chemical products.The annual award honors UP customers for implementing protocols to prevent the release of chemical materials, and for having corrective action plans and zero non-accident releases (NARs) of regulated hazardous materials shipments.Criteria for the award include safe-loading techniques, shipment securement and zero NARs.Hazardous material NARs declined more than 20 percent on UP's network from 2015 to 2016, according to a UP press release.This year's Pinnacle Award winners can be viewed here.

UP budgets $2.5 million for Wisconsin projects

UP to spend $5 million on infrastructure in Washington

Union Pacific Railroad has budgeted $5.1 million this year for infrastructure projects in the state of Washington.Projects planned include $3.5 million to clean and replace ballast under the rail line along the Ayer Subdivision south of Hooper, and more than $500,000 to replace a section of curve rail on the line north of Wallula.This year's planned capital expenditure in Washington is part of UP's ongoing investment strategy. From 2012 to 2016, the Class I spent more than $45 million strengthening Washington's transportation infrastructure.UP has budgeted $3.1 billion on capital expenditures across its network this year.

Union Pacific Railroad's 2017 capital expenditures plan includes $23 million worth of infrastructure projects in New Mexico, the Class I announced Monday.Investments include $22 million to maintain track and $1 million in other improvements across the state, according to a UP press release.Projects include $14 million to replace 116,318 ties and install 55,470 tons of ballast on the line between Carrizozo and Fort Bliss; and $1.6 million to replace 10,615 ties and install 3,000 tons of ballast on the line across Lordsburg."Union Pacific's targeted investments fund projects that strengthen our railroad tracks, increase safety and minimize delays as trains travel through communities across New Mexico," said Brenda Mainwaring, vice president-public affairs.From 2012 to 2016, UP spent more than $105 million on infrastructure projects in New Mexico. The Class I plans to spend $3.1 billion across its network this year.

UP announces $68 million in capex projects for Iowa

Union Pacific Railroad late last week unveiled a $68 million plan for infrastructure projects in Iowa this year.The projects range from $55 million to maintain track and $10 million to maintain bridges in the state, according to a UP press release.Among the key projects are $5 million to replace 25 miles of rail on the UP line between Garden City and Bradford and $10 million to replace the bridge over Abbe Creek in Bertram.Iowa is the latest of UP's state-by-state announcements for capital expenditure plans this year. From 2012 to 2016, UP spent more than $330 million to improve Iowa's transportation infrastructure.

UP schedules $24 million in capex plans for Arizona

The Class I expects to spend $43 million for track maintenance and $3 million for bridge maintenance in the state, UP officials said in a press release. One key project involves replacing 92,174 ties and installing 34,481 tons of ballast on the rail line between Labadie and Chamois. That work is slated to cost $12 million.Another critical project calls for replacing 57,489 ties and installing 42,462 tons of ballast on track between Mineral Point and Annapolis. The railroad has slotted $38 million for track maintenance and $2.8 million for bridge maintenance, UP officials said yesterday in a press release.One key project involves replacing 68,579 ties and installing 21,967 tons of ballast on the rail line in eastern Goshen and Niobrara counties. That work is expected to cost $10 million.UP also has set aside $7 million to replace 58,382 ties and install nearly 39,375 tons of ballast between Wamsutter and Rock Springs.From 2012 to 2016, UP invested more than $243 million in Wyoming's transportation infrastructure, according to the railroad.The Class I in late March began unveiling its state-by-state infrastructure plans. About $40 million will be invested to maintain railroad track and $626,000 to maintain bridges in the state, according to a UP press release. Projects will include replacing 62,431 ties and installing 28,642 tons of ballast on the rail line between Parsons and Big Cabin at a cost of $8 million; and replacing 53,308 ties and installing 24,247 tons of ballast between the Oklahoma state line and Gore at a cost of $7 million.The planned $41 million capital expenditure in Oklahoma is part of UP's ongoing investment in the state.
